The Longest Night in Shanghai (2007)

She should get him back home, but the phone calls keep coming in. He should get back to his hotel, but the strange bond he's forming with this woman (even though he barely understands a word she's saying) is the first thing in years to have him feeling alive.

Intro

I really loved this movie, I liked the plot of building a bond without really understanding what the other person is saying but through body language or writing, drawing and etc...
Filled with plenty of sweet moments throughout the movie

The acting had to be top notch and it was, considering the plot. Zhao Wei and Motoki Masahiro were excellent and had great chemistry which made this movie work.

Music done well to back the movie up, nothing really else to say here.

Great solid enjoyable movie

My Score : 9/10

[C-Movie Review] So Close

So Close (2002)

Lynn and Sue are two stunningly attractive sisters with a profession unlike any other. They are smart, sexy, and downright dangerous. These two are the coolest "hit women" in town and it seems nothing can get in their way until a tough and beautiful detective, Hong, gets dangerously close to their trail. Non-stop martial arts action ensues when Lynn and Sue get up close and personal with the law.

Intro
Why do birds suddenly appear?

This is one of my favourite movies
It was the movie that started my whole interested
in asian films and dramas.
One day I will go into that in more detail
But for now lets move onto the review

Well what do I have to say about one of my favourite movies
well atually not muh

Its stars Zhao wei shu qi and Karen Mok
Its direted by Corey Yuen
seriously what more do i need to say
that is a awesom ast and and brilliant diretor
but granted bak then i had no idea who they were
i just piked the movie at random one day at a video rental store

so what did i like about it? it atually has a pretty good story
its like in two parts main fous is on two sisters played by shu qi and zhao wei
who are assassins for hire Lynn played by shu qi eventually wants to quit
while Sue played by zhao wei does not beause she has nothing anything else in her life so she wants to ontinue then the story fouses on her
and then the op played by karen mok fits in between them within the storyline
i dont want to say anything more about the story as that would be spoiling it

there were parts of the story where it ould have done slightly better
mainly the bad guys beause they were pretty muh presented quikly
as just some bad guys who wants ontrol in a ompany thats it
but then the movie was also quite long so it would have been hard
to add that as the movie may have beome too long after that

but the best parts in the movie are definitly the ation senes
they are really well done
everything from the ation to the amera work
and they even have a bit of story going on in the fights
and you have like funny moments paniking moments and then the serious moments
everything is blended in with the ation snes very well when needed
and it takes the story from a to b perfetly
for me with how well the ation snes were done
it overs the very few raks that the movie had.

Nothing else to say it looks simple but yet also ompliated
its a well put together ation movie that does
that wee bit more

My Score : 10/10

[K-Movie Review] One Step

One Step (2017)

Shi Hyun, a part-time worker at a convenience store, lost all her memory after a car accident and now has synesthesia (the colored hearing syndrome in which she can see sounds in colors). With the help of an internet broadcasting producer, the girl embarks on a trip in order to find a melody that she only listened to in her dreams. As the song nears completion, Shi Hyun's fragmented memories return to her.

Intro

Story
Surprisingly a very good film. I think it is very underrated. The synopsis is what you get, the journey which was done really well. It is not an epic story of an adventure but it is a really good story of a journey into music and trying to get your memories back.

Acting / Cast
Sandara Park was fantastic with her acting and singing.

Music
The songs were fantastic

Overall
Really enjoyed the film

[K-Movie Review] Wonderful Radio

Love On-Air (2012)

Jin Ah is the former leader of idol group Purple, one of the first generation of girl groups in South Korea and also the most popular at that time. She now hosts the radio program "Wonderful Radio," but the program suffers from low ratings. The show's producer then takes time off to give birth. Her replacement is Lee Jae Hyeok. Jin Ah is late for her first meeting with PD Lee Jae Hyeok. Because of this, PD Lee Jae Hyeok gets an unfavorable impression of Jin Ah and their relationship soon turns worse. During the meeting, PD Lee Jae Hyeok instructs the staff to create a new section for the radio program to increase ratings.

Intro

Story
One of the best films that I have ever because it was almost done perfectly.
Only minor things are that maybe didn't have enough time to tell everything like the story behind purple, because the two other members characters are important in the plot but not really featured in the film much. Romance sort of came out from nowhere with next to no build up
Things they done right
The people who call in to sing were really good because it didn't take much explaining, you knew each situation with one scene and it was all very emotional. Main character was really good

[WEB-Drama Review] Dramaworld

Dramaworld (2016)

Claire Duncan, a huge fan of K-Drama gets her world turned upside down when with a touch of magic, she finds herself transported into a magical realm Dramaworld where she has the power to alter her favourite K-Drama 'Taste of Love.’ story line as a "Facilitator." Claire can’t just watch the drama unfold. She’s got to be a part of it.
https://mydramalist.com/16797-dramaworld

Intro
Isn't this all of our dreams? Challenge that Dramaworld had is that it could never represent everyone

Story
Second half was by far better than the first. Initially it almost as if it tried to be serious which didn't quite work mainly due to that Claire was never going to represent every K-Drama which seemed like it was trying to go for. Once it became its own thing, being funny, silly and maybe a bit ott of times but it worked! I enjoyed it.

Acting / Cast
The cast was great especially those surrounding Liv Hewson. I think Liv was good but I was not amazed, I felt that was due to in-experience and I hope she comes back for season 2 as she has been more since Dramaworld.

We Broke Up (2015)

Ji Won Yeong is an aspiring musician and the lead singer of a band while No Woo Ri works at a fashion company. The two met at one of Won Yeong's gigs and their relationship blossomed. Soon, they agreed to live together. Things got complicated when they both decided to break up.

Intro
Sandara Park!

Story
It was cute and had a good story. There were a few good references to 2ne1. Sadly it felt like there were a few side plots which never went anywhere where I felt it would have been better just to focus on the leads. They are the stars of the show on all levels from story to acting.

Acting / Cast
Sandara Park and Kang Seung Yoon looked so cute together. They were great together, had good chemistry without having to do anything in particular.

Music
I really liked the title song which the leads sing, other than that there is good background music here and there.

Overall
This is one of the web-dramas that I would like to see more of. It was well done but sadly a bit short in the sense of feeling not quite complete but it is still a great one to watch!

Intro
Wanted to see something short and came across this.

Story
What I really liked about this special was the introduction it explained the situation perfectly, i
t was easy to understand who is who and what they're feeling or wanting.
The story like started straight away and went through it really well, it didn't over complicate or drag
but yet the story was very interesting.

Acting / Cast
Seung Yeon was brilliant in this I am a fan of Kara. I enjoyed secret love & her lovely heels
I want to see her in more of these specials. Kim Da Hyun was also very good.

Music
Great music in this one, it is a big part in the drama and the tracks in it are great.
To have Seung Yeon in it is awesome

Overall
This is a pretty good one to start off with for new comers to kdramas or after watching a bad one.
It's simple but with a good feel factor

My Top 10 Favourite Korean Web-Dramas Of All Time

I decided to have two rules for this list.

#1 - Only 1 season per web-drama so therefore I provide a bigger range of web-dramas in the list.
#2 - I count drama specials etc... the same as web-dramas (roughly same runtime.)

I have to say making this list was actually tough compared to my top 10 k-dramas one, there I knew where to place them (maybe could swap 1 around) but here almost every one listed here I could have as number one

10. Dramaworld (2016)

Isn't this all of our dreams? Challenge that Dramaworld had is that it could never represent everyone
Second half is must stronger than the first with it being hilarious and fun.

9. Little Girl K (2011)

8. Splash Splash LOVE (2015)

7. Just One Bite (2018)

Certain scenes will make you hungry
can get very deep at times too

6. Dating Class (2019)

4. Love Playlist: Season 4 (2019)

I feel that Love Playlist has a bit of an unfair advantage since it has the depth of 4 seasons but of course it is really good with many different characters and to add actress Kim Sae Ron into the mix was certainly a treat! Just a shame when some characters take a step back between seasons but then others come forward and certainly reach the same level if not higher!

Beautiful ost

How I don't get burned out a lot watching K-Dramas

Well I think the main thing is I never over do it (consistently) which is probably the main thing.

On average I watch 1 episode a night and weekends usually watch a film (English/American) instead.

Of course it can be different during times especially now with the virus situation I watch 2-3 a night.
I think it is important to have a good mix, I play games, write, draw, workout

Only few times when I stopped watching a drama for a small period is when I tried to watch one where I ended up really not liking it or one where it was hard to get over the line after a promising start which makes it harder to get into the next drama.

What I do to get back in from those occasions is watch a web drama or a movie. Sometimes one or up to 2 or 3, afterwards it is as if nothing ever happened.

Even that happens much less now as I do look deeper in people's ratings for dramas, I no longer jump into a drama became of the plot or the cast etc...

Thursday 23 April 2020

About my initial review scores for K-Dramas

Well it is actually quite simple...

At the start I looked a lot at people's ratings for dramas among kdramafighting dramabeans and more. I didn't read reviews but looked at the scores and I got an average for a drama from up to 5 places.
Sounds complex I know, but I just did not know really where to look at the start.

I don't watch (especially now) things that I know are going to be crap.

Honestly it all came down to certain dramas I felt where slightly better and others not as good then it created a lot of 7.5 and 8 out of 10 and believe

I feel that from 2014 K-Dramas really grew and went up a level.

[K-Drama Review] The Vineyard Man

The Vineyard Man (2006)

In this romantic-comedy, (an adaptation of the book The Vineyard Man by Kim Rang), Yoon Eun Hye plays Lee Ji Hyun, a clothing designer in Seoul, who reluctantly leaves home for one year to work at her grand uncle's vineyard in a small village. However when arriving in the country, she reunites with a Jang Taek Gi Oh Man Suk, a local resident who had been wrongfully arrested in Seoul by police after Ji Hyun reported having a dress-which she had designed-had been stolen. The two clash frequently as Ji Hyun has a difficult time adjusting to life in the country and working with Taek Gi. However, after many twists and turns Ji Hyun adapts to rustic life while falling in love with Taek Gi.

Intro
After watching Coffee Prince & Lie to Me I wanted to try another Yoon Eun Hye drama.
So I decided to watch this one... and boy that was a mistake

Story
There were parts that were okay but it needed to be a much shorter drama not a full one.
Day dream sequences were too many, too long and boring and there was also starts of scenes of her walking and with saying that i felt that every scene was too long for what it was
Every other character is just boring and felt the same.
Also I feel that it tries to be funny but it just fails to do so.
I quit watching this drama during the 4th episode, Part of me wanted to continue but it was too tuff to do so. I then later skip watch it and it did get better towards the end and I ended up watching the final episode but for the vast majority of this drama, it was unwatchable.

Acting / Cast
Yoon Eun Hye... she's the only good thing in this drama her acting and the character that she plays.

Music
Didn't give the drama enough time to look back at it...

Overall
This is the worst K-Drama that I have seen to date
Prior to this one I never looked too much into reviews, sometimes I did look at recommendations or ratings. But now I do and lastly it is not even worth it to see for Yoon Eun-Hye performance!

My Score : 4/10

[K-Drama Review] You're All Surrounded

You're All Surrounded (2014)

Eun Dae Gu, Uh Soo Sun, Park Tae Il and Ji Gook - otherwise known as the P4 - are the new recruits in the violent crime unit at Gangnam Police Station. These rookies are neither enthusiastic, nor passionate about their new jobs and have joined the crime squad for varying but unbefitting reasons. They are lead by an erratic and hot headed Seo Pan Suk who wants nothing more than to wash his hands of the incompetent new recruits.

Intro
Well I like watching Crime TV shows so I wanted to try a K-Drama that and the cast convinced me to watch this.

Story
This drama started off very well it had great momentum and I really liked the story
and the cast were all great
But sadly after ep 13 it went off the pace terribly, earlier episodes had more distractions from the main plot like them learning being cops, other cases etc...
Main plot felt like it was stretched out from 16 episodes to 20.

Acting / Cast
Very good cast like Lee Seung Gi who I saw previously in My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho, I think he is fantastic. Also Go Ah Ra was great also and the two leads had good chemistry together which definitely helped this drama when it did struggle slightly.

Music

I did like the soundtrack in this one, with some good stand out instrumentals.

Overall
It is a bit sad that this drama had things to make it a legendary drama:
Great cast, good story concept, backstory and soundtrack it had the makings.
For the most part it worked, but this drama got delayed then extended to 20 episodes which in my opinion did not help but it still was decent enough.

My Score : 8/10

[K-Drama Review] Prime Minister and I

Prime Minister and I (2013)

Prime Minister Kwon Yool works well at his office, but he struggles to raise his three children alone. Nam Da Jung is a reporter full of enthusiasm at work, but she always ends up missing big scoops. When Nam Da Jung chases Prime Minister Kwon for a lucrative exposé, she ends up scooping a whole lot more than she bargained for. Kwon Yool's three kids receive a mother as a Christmas present, and that mother is Nam Da Jung.

Intro
Yoona!!!

Story
Simple story, funny and very touching at times. It isn't really a romance story.
The leads were in different situations and it was more about them respecting and learning about each other. The drama gave away the (somewhat) bad guy within the first few minutes with a music cue...
The plot twist a third of the way through, blah! The typical eye roll and it became a slight drag getting to the end. It ended nicely and probably the best way for this drama.

Acting / Cast
Yoona done really well. The chemistry between the leads were good but not in a romantic way for the most part. Honestly that did not really affect me as I felt that the drama was more about them respecting each other rather than a romance.

Music
Nice soundtrack, nothing to really comment on.

Overall
It was one where I wanted to find out what happens, somewhat became addicted to it.
If your a snsd fan there it gives you that extra boost when watching Yoona.
It could have became better with cutting some parts but I still liked it in the end.

My Score : 8/10 (I like it)

[K-Drama Review] Flower Boy Next Door

Flower Boy Next Door (2013)

This is a drama about a girl, Go Dok Mi who is a shut-in Miss Lonelyhearts type, who spends her days spying on the man living in next building. She is caught spying by her other neighbor, Enrique Geum. Meanwhile, Oh Jin Rok is the man who notices her from long ago, and knows everything about her and will fall in love with her. Go Dok Mi is a ′city Rapunzel′ who never ventures outdoors, yet has her own set of charms that makes men go weak. Oh Jin Rok is a scruffy manhwa artist. Enrique Geum is a genius creative director, who is good-looking, stylish and bohemian and can′t get enough of soccer. He will form a love line with Go Dok Mi.

Intro:
Park Shin Hye is a popular actress and the synopsis of this drama was interesting to me so I tried it out!

Story:
It started off funny and cute and I really liked the characters, even the slightly annoying ones (they were just at the right level of being annoying). Sadly it did sort of dragged a bit in around the middle which did hurt it a bit but luckily they were able to bring it back round and finish it reasonably well.

Acting / Cast:
The acting was great in this one. Kim Seul Gi and Go Kyung Pyo were so cute together and sometimes even stole the show here and there which probably helped at the parts when the drama struggled. Check this out: here
Music:
I really like the upbeat title track, it's awesome. The soundtrack overall is really good and memorable, so definitely a strong point in this drama.

Overall:
Even though I do think that you should watch this drama at some point for sure, but I don't think it is one of the best and it wouldn't certainly go into my favourites.

My Score : 8/10 (I like it)

[K-Drama Review] Prosecutor Princess

Prosecutor Princess (2010)

Ma Hye Ri is a woman with an excellent memory and ability to focus, which allowed her to pass the bar exam with ease. Despite her talents, she is more interested in being fashionable and dislikes hard work so she is far from being an ideal prosecutor and has doubts about her suitability for her job. Through her conflicts with senior colleages and struggles with difficult cases, however, Hye Ri gradually matures into a brilliant prosecutor with a sense of duty and justice.

Intro:
This was recommended a lot across and it featured in certain top lists.
So I gave this a shot!
Story:
Great interesting story with some good twists. Although it can be a bit confusing at times because it takes a bit of time to find out whats happening.
I think it maybe should've revealed some things earlier.
It's like your in Hye Mi's shoes during the drama even if it can be a bit frustrating at times when it follows Seo In Woo as you don't know what's he thinking.
What I didn't like I did not agree with the outcome of the case at the end.
This drama had a nice fresh feel with a good mix of things, there was even a fight scene from out of the blue, it was actually a pretty cool one!

Acting / Cast :
The chemistry between the leads was wow which certainly boosts the drama a lot. I know why you seen a certain top 10 list somewhere! *kiss* Oh! ....

Music:
The title song was memorable, when I hear Give Me by Nine Muses I think of this drama. That is always a good sign that I was able to know the song and that I also like it too.
Overall:
I think this is a great drama although its a bit confusing and maybe takes 10 eps to see what's actually going on It can be confusing and you asking what why etc...

My Score : 8/10 (I like it)

[K-Drama Review] City Hunter

City Hunter (2011)

Lee Yoon Sung is a talented MIT-graduate who works on the international communications team in the Blue House. Intro:
This was the second k-drama that I ever watched and I want to have my input into it
If you do any amount of research on this drama you'll know that it's gonna be good and that its awesome. That's why I watched it because it was on top of everybody's list

Story:
Its a full package, there's everything from a serious interesting story, there's action, romance, comedy and more! Quality of the fights and the quality overall, Its just top class and pure awesomeness, everything looks amazing scenery. Twists and story telling its epic maybe it takes an ep or 2 to explain things but its still very good and after that its awesome.
So after a near perfect drama there was one thing that really annoyed me...
The final ending scene... just felt lazy and a slap in the face.
I just don't understand how someone can make a fantastic series but then do such a lazy final scene....
I just don't get it

Acting / Cast:
The cast was fantastic also they all done a great job except... The chemistry was not fully there for me between Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young, don't get me wrong they did great but it at the romantic parts just didn't feel right with me.

Music:
Soundtrack was great too but it was nothing that stood out for me like from other dramas or games etc...

Overall:
Even though a part of me wanted to give it less like a  but in the end I couldn't do it because
the rest of it is a masterpiece that you should watch and I would still recommend it despite the most lazy final scene ever

My Score : 8.0/10 (I like it)

[K-Drama Review] Personal Taste

Personal Taste (2010)

Jeon Jin Ho is a straight guy who is mistaken as gay when he applies to become Park Gae In's roommate. His hobbies include organization and ironing, and he's known for his stoic poker face. He's a stickler for cleanliness, but he also has a talent for figuring out a women's feelings. Gae In is very trusting even though she has a habit of being betrayed. However, that doesn't stop her from giving people the benefit of doubt and Jin Ho is no different. How will Gae In react when she finds out that her gay roommate is not actually gay at all and that he has fallen for her?

Intro:
I was looking for something lighter like a funny comedy and I came across this.
Well...

Story:
I liked the story it was believable on how things were linked together.
I really got into this especially the first half. It was hilarious! probably one of the best comedy k-dramas I had seen up till this point. But the second half of the drama was a completely different tone.
As if it changed genre from romantic comedy to romantic drama and extra on the drama!
It just got really heavy in the last half of the series, episode after episode. It was still good but just heavy and lost its fun.

Acting / Cast:
Acting from Lee Min Ho was fantastic. The acting was solid from everyone. Kim Ji Suk was great too very funny.

Music:
Nothing overly memorable but nothing bad either...

Overall:
It was a bit disappointing losing the comedy side half way through as I was really enjoying the comedy side of the drama. Even though it was still good in the last half of the series but it just wasn't the same and it might stopped me from loving it.

My Score : 8/10 (I like it)

My Plans For This Blog

I love K-Dramas and I love writing so I decided to start a blog specifically for Dramas and Movies!
I tried doing reviews for them before but it was on one blog covering everything even games, tech plus more and I felt it was kind of drowned within all that so that is why I am starting this blog dedicated to this from which I hope to push on!

I actually have a lot of written reviews almost the amount of dramas that I watched being 145+ Dramas and 30+ Movie reviews. So it is sort of hard to decide and plan what way to go about it.

I have started with my top ten list then the first two K-Dramas that I watched despite my journey into Asian Dramas started with Chinese ones. You can read about my journey: here.
But since my main passion and joy is K-Dramas now and has been for quite some time, I felt that it was the best place to start.

For the first week of starting this blog, I want to give it a real push I will try to post 3 reviews a day. I will focus on older ones first until maybe 2014 later ones then I will mix it up. Once I have get less and less reviews left to post then I will reduce the amount that I post to either once daily or multiple every other day etc... and so forth.

If you have any suggestions please ask!

Stay tuned for future updates!

Thanks for reading! :D

[K-Drama Review] My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (2010)

Chae Dae Wong, an aspiring actor, unwillingly releases a Gumiho, a legendary nine-tailed fox, from her centuries-old prison. He runs away terrified and ends up injuring himself badly, but she saves his life and asks to stay by his side.

Intro
From having watched Forbidden Love I became quite interested in the gumiho (nine tailed fox) mythology. So when this k-drama came out I was very interested in watching it.

Story
The start was very mysterious and funny especially in the second episode I never laughed out loud so much! I thought wow this is really good and it convinced me to show and ended up watching the rest of it with my friends it was that good. Sadly in the last few episodes things for me started to get a little bit boring and repetitive. It felt a bit teenage-y. It was like they did not know what they want to do with the story and went on repeat until near the end. Which was disappointing but the ending does make up for it, thank heavens!

Cast / Acting
Everything was great, this drama had a very good cast and everyone played their roles really well and a real standout performance by Shin Min Ah who played the role of the gumiho.

Music
Good solid soundtrack with a few memorable ones that fits this drama well, nothing amazing but good ones none the less. dippy dippy do wa ah! XD

Overall
I really enjoyed the start of this drama but I have to say that I was happy when it finished.
It is another one of those where it could have been better if it was shorter like 12 episodes.
I would still recommend on watching it if your a fan of the cast or down the line when your not sure what to watch.

My Score : 7.5/10 (I like it)
